History of Cieplice

The origins of Cieplice, historically attested, date back to the second half of the 13th century. The local hot springs were already known then. It is from them that the town took its name, both in German - Bad Warmbrunn (Villa Warmbron 1288), in Latin - Callidus fons (1281) and in Polish - Cheplewode (1318).
The new owner of Cieplice in 1381 was Gotsche Schoff, a knight in the service of Prince Bolko II of Świdnicko-Jaworski. He purchased Cieplice from the prince's widow, Agnieszka. The town remained in the hands of his descendants, the Schaffgotsch family, for the following centuries.

Their first scientific descriptions undoubtedly contributed to the popularization of the Cieplice springs. The Brandenburg physician Caspar Hoffman examined and described the local hot waters as early as 1569. However, in 1607 it was published in Zgorzelec, a much better and more extensive work by Caspar Schwenckfeld, an outstanding naturalist and doctor from Jelenia Góra.
In 1902, a famous woodcarving school was established in Cieplice. The spa was also famous in the area for its annual fair called "Tallsackmarkt", during which unique gingerbread was sold. In 1925, Cieplice was officially nicknamed Bad - Uzdrowisko. And in 1935 - they obtained city rights.

ORIGIN OF THE NAME OF THE CASPAR HOTEL
The most important idea in creating the name was to refer to the history of the region and place. We used historical materials to search for it. We were surprised to discover that the name Caspar was repeated among many distinguished people living or staying in the former Cieplice. Among those that should certainly be mentioned are:
1515 - Caspar Schaffgotsch (owner of Cieplice) - built a chapel next to the parish church.
1569 - Caspar Hoffmann, physician - examined and prepared the first scientific description of the Cieplice health resort.
1599 – Caspar Ebert built a larger reservoir of the monastery spring.
1607 - Caspar Schwenckfeld von Ossig, a researcher of the Karkonosze nature and a doctor from Cieplice, published the first detailed scientific description of the spring and the healing properties of its springs.
1711 - Caspar Jentsch rebuilt the church and bathrooms in Cieplice after a great fire.
1736 - Caspar Gottlieb Lindner, writer
1847 - Caspar David Friedrich, a famous painter, resides in Cieplice.
To honor their memory, we chose this name, evoking pleasant associations, as the name of our hotel and Restaurant.
